The penguin (Brazilian Portuguese) or Penguin (European Portuguese) is a bird of the family Spheniscidae not flying characteristic of the southern hemisphere, especially in Antarctica and islands of the southern seas, come to Tierra del Fuego, the Falkland Islands and South Africa, among others. Despite the greater diversity found in Antarctic penguins and polar regions, there are also species that live in the tropics such as the Galapagos Islands. The morphology of penguins reflects several adaptations to life in the aquatic environment: the body is fusiform atrophied wings perform the function of fins and feathers are waterproofed by secreting oils. The penguins feed on small fish, krill and other marine life forms, being turn victims of predation of killer whales and leopard seals.
